Families are also encouraged to be involved in the life of the school through consistent volunteer events and opportunities to lead after school clubs.
Are all of the students Catholic?
We have a diverse student body made up of many different ethnicities, races, and religions. While the majority of our students identify as Catholic, we have many students and families with different or no religious affiliation and these students make up a beautiful part of our community. Religion classes, prayer services, and weekly Mass reveal the Catholic nature of our school. All students participate in these opportunities, but there is certainly no requirement that all of our students be Catholic.
Is there an alumni network?
With over 100 years of service, St. Sylvester School has an extensive and supportive alumni network. Alumni newsletters help keep all graduates informed of special alumni news as well as recent school developments. Individual alumni have also sponsored contests for students and the installation of our new flagpole. We are blessed that St. Sylvester alumni remember their school community and continue to support it through the years.
Does St. Sylvester School accept students with special needs?
We strive to be fully inclusive of all students and their particular learning styles and needs. By focusing on small class sizes and utilizing learning centers, teachers are able to provide differentiated instruction and respond to particular needs. We have Masters level teachers who often work 1-1 with particular students to address special learning needs. However, we honestly share that we do not have the full resources that some students may require (speech therapy, daily 1-1 aide, etc.) so acceptance is always done on an individual basis. The family, student, and principal will meet before students are accepted.
